Regarding guest strips!: I lied, I'll probably have to sift through the submissions last-minute over the next couple of days. So if you don't hear from me until Thursday, please rest assured that I probably received your strip, I just got swamped and couldn't reply immediately!
Thanks again to everyone who sent one in! I can't wait to read them all!!
TCAF is this weekend. Are you coming? Or are you crying because you can't come? There's no in-between answer unless you live very far from Toronto, or hate art.
For those who don't know, TCAF is a FREE ENTRY art show held in the Toronto Reference Library on Yonge (near Bloor) in Toronto - officially called the Toronto Comic Arts Festival.
It's a two-day show this weekend, May 11 & 12, featuring extraordinary artists, and also people like me! It's the best show. The best. I'll be there, and all of these amazing people will be there too.
I'll be bringing my standard selection - some sweet prints, all of my GWS books, a few of the last McPedro plushies, and my B9 book (new this year!) - but I should also have (FINALLY!) copies of the Adventure Time book I wrote that's coming out next week!
I'll also be on two panels on Sunday, both in the nearby Marriott: 12:15-1:15 about humor in comics (where you'll learn why I'm a cartoonist instead of a stand-up comic), and 4-5 about Adventure Time, including peeps like Ryan North, Meredith Gran, and Mike Holmes!
I feel the need to note that fucking BILL AMEND of Fox Trot will be on that first panel, so you'll also get to watch me pee my pants. If you're not into that then don't come.
I'm looking to feature some guest strips during the week of May 27-31. Would you like to submit one? I'd like for you to submit one!
I'll be open for guest strip submissions next week (or, hell, in the next twenty minutes if you're David Willis) and the theme will be "What the hell has everyone else in this comic been up to?"
I'd love to see what you think Beatrice the Librarian, or Chris the Pirate and Melody, or Maureen and Jameson, or heaven forbid, CANDY, have been up to while we've been paying so much attention to other characters. Here's the general cast list if you'd like to get some ideas.
Here are the restrictions/requirements for guest strip submissions:
That's it, really! I'll mention this again next week, most likely. Again, the deadline will be MAY 20!
I've done a lot of interviews recently, but I keep forgetting to link y'all to them!
My hometown newspaper, the Frederick News-Post, put out this lovely article last week.
Publishers Weekly did a nice interview with me about my Adventure Time book right here.
And my VERY local Spirit of Jefferson, here in Jefferson County, West Virginia, has a nice write-up (and goofy picture of my mug) here!
I wasn't very consistent about what I shared and wouldn't share (sorry, Frederick Post!), so you can match up bits & pieces from each article to find out what I'm working on next. ;)
Oh, and you locals! Did you know that May 4th is Free Comic Book Day? I'll be at Beyond Comics in Frederick, MD this Saturday from 12-4 with a full array of books, some of the last McPedro plushies, and other goodies, drawing free quick sketches for people (since I already give a way the comic for free)! Come say hello!
I have some updates about this weekend!
If you're coming to Calgary Expo this weekend and would like to purchase goods from non-Canadians like myself, you should probably bring cash!
Apparently my US square account won't work in Canada. Bummer. So please go pick up that sweet colourful Canadian currency before you attend the show!
At the show, I'll be selling a bunch of original GWS strips (some as recent as this past week!), copies of all 4 books (Book One will go fast, so if you want a full 7-book set, please come early!), copies of my B9 Kingdom book o' nudes, AND!! Hold on, let me start a new paragraph.
AND!! Rumor has it, the Adventure Time book I wrote will be available. OMG!
I should have copies at my table, but I'll also be doing a signing on Sunday from 1-2 at the KaBOOM! booth #400 with the fabulous artist of the book, Zach Sterling!
The rest of the time I'll be at booth #1125 with Dave Willis, nearby Topatoco and Blind Ferret. Here's a handy map:
Come find us! Can't wait to see you!
The lovely folks at CBR had me and the VERY talented Noelle Stevenson on the phone recently, and here’s what we said about being ladies in the webcomics world!
If you’ve ever wondered just how idiotic I sound in real life, read this interview. You’ll notice that Noelle’s thoughts are brilliantly composed, while I sound like someone who just learned English and also has a brain problem. This is why I don’t do phone interviews and/or talk to people IRL ever.
The real reason I’m making a blog post about this (rather than just leaving it on Twitter) is because you guys HAVE to check out Noelle’s comic Nimona. This girl is SO TALENTED, I just love her art!! Enjoy!
